Message from VA Beach EMS Chief Ed Brazle:
As announced a couple weeks ago, EMS has created four Assistant Chief positions to better support our ten rescue squads.
Each officer will lead 2-3 squads and report directly to a Deputy Chief. I am proud to report that a number of highly qualified veterans applied for the new position.
While only two new officers are to be named today, we have a strong bench to fill additional departmental leadership roles in the future.
For today, I am pleased to be able to announce the following appointments to Assistant Chief:
Assistant Chief Walker has been an active member of Virginia Beach EMS for more than twenty years and is certified as an Advanced EMT.
During his tenure, Chief Walker has served as both the President and Squad Commander of the Plaza Volunteer Rescue Squad (for many years) and has served as a Field Supervisor with the Department of EMS since 2004.
Chief Walker has received many recognitions and awards from the Department of EMS over the years and most recently served as an interim Brigade Chief. Chief Walker will report to Deputy Chief Stroud and will serve as the Assistant Chief assigned to the Creeds, Blackwater and Kempsville rescue squads.
Assistant Chief Long has been an active member of Virginia Beach EMS for almost fifteen years and is certified as a paramedic.
Chief Long has previously served (for several years) as a Squad Commander of the Ocean Park Volunteer Rescue Squad after having first served as both the squad Treasurer and Assistant Squad Commander. Chief Long has received multiple awards and recognitions during his tenure with Virginia Beach EMS.
Chief Long will report to Deputy Chief Green and will serve as the Assistant Chief assigned to the Plaza and Virginia Beach rescue squads.
Assistant Chief Walker and Assistant Chief Long join Assistant Chief Jay Leach who serves the Courthouse and Sandbridge rescue squads and Assistant Chief Trevor Kirk who serves the Ocean Park, Davis Courthouse and Chesapeake Beach rescue squads.
Please join me in congratulating these officers on their new position.
