June 30th, 2018, marked Mike Mullins last shift as a career fire captain with the Virginia Beach Fire Department. Captain Mullins began his firefighting career as a volunteer firefighter-EMT with the Davis Corner Volunteer Fire Department-Rescue Squad-Station 2, more than 40 years ago.
Captain Mullins transitioned from serving as a volunteer firefighter-EMS to a career position with VBFD, where he has served in multiple capacities, providing guidance and mentorship to many people. His hard work and dedication to the city will definitely not be forgotten.
His legacy will live through his daughter Alaina Mullins, Operations Lieutenant with the Davis Corner Volunteer Rescue Squad and a career firefighter with the City of Hampton Fire Department.
While Captain Mullins has for the past several years been assigned to VBFD-EMS Station 13-Blackwater Volunteer Fire-Rescue, he had the rare opportunity to run his last shift at the same Fire-EMS station [Station 2] as his daughter, Davis Corner Rescue Squad Operations Lieutenant Alaina Mullins.
Many volunteers with VA Beach EMS have transitioned from volunteer positions to career Fire-EMS positions as a result of the valuable experienced gained volunteering with VA Beach EMS.
